A Cooperative Retail Space

Lyttleton Stores began in 2015 as a family partnership, before transitioning to a cooperative in 2018 (find out more here). In 2023, we have entered a new phase of our cooperative existence, creating a shared retail space within the heritage Lyttleton building. What began as a response to difficulties caused by economic downturn and the factors that precipitated it, quickly grew into a new and exciting opportunity.

RoseyRavelston Books

Lyttleton Stores is now the home of RoseyRavelston Books, a small social enterprise bookshop run by a couple of avid readers and their dog Echo (the quality control expert), with the vital support of a small group of volunteers. They combined their love of reading with their passion for supporting & advocating on behalf of refugees - through fundraising and by donating 50% of their profit to charities supporting refugees.

RoseyRavelston has created a comfortable space for people to linger and enjoy, the perfect companion to a Cooperative that offers delicious coffee and food everyday!

Lyttleton Cottage

Tucked behind Lyttleton Stores is Lyttleton Cottage… a delightful once-residential space that has served many functions over the years, and has now been bought fully into the Lyttelton fold!

The Cottage has been converted to a multi-use space. It provides a Co-working Space, where businesses and individuals can rent a desk and take advantage of the amenities, and a Multipurpose Room that can be use for meetings, to run a small wellness classes or private appointments. While the entire space (kitchen and bathroom included) is also available to hire (contact RoseyRavelson to find out more). With all profits being split between Lyttleton Stores Cooperative and RoseyRavelston Books.

Meanwhile, this space becomes a boon to Lyttleton Stores, providing exciting new spaces for our Workshops and Events! Including new community-focused initiatives like a monthly Craft Circle.

Lyttleton Stores Reimagined

It was important from the start that our shared retail space be an integrated one, with a focus on brining us together and growing our community.

Within RoseyRavelston’s bookshelves can be found Lyttleton’s Atelier, with artisan ware made locally in the Blue Mountains, and a window gallery that hosts monthly exhibitions. While a central open space is ideal for small Workshops and intimate Events.

Lyttleton Stores groceries, bulk food and fresh produce look better than ever in their new home. And we were thrilled to be able to take advantage of this change to reinvigorate our Kitchen, with fresh cooked food now available daily and our coffee machine up and running!

As a final touch, Lyttleton Gardens (where we have been hard at work with the invaluable help of our volunteers), have been opened to the community, as a space to enjoy, relax, play and explore.
