Bringing Together Backyard Growers

What a lovely evening we had a Lyttleton Stores last Friday night at our first Backyard Growers Meet Up. We started with a stroll through our vegetable garden and mini orchard. We then listened to Eric Brocken tell us about composting methods, soil bacteria and fungi.

After that we had a wonderful discussion about possible themes for future meet ups, including managing insects, growing in shade, native edibles, useful 'weeds', companion planting, food forest design and more. We also came  up with ideas such as organising 'tree netting blitzes', crop coordination, hosting beehives, and buying netting as a group.

I (Manu) went home with a warm, fuzzy feeling in my heart. What a gorgeous, resilient community of food growers we are building!
