The River’s Table - Summer Event at Twelve Trees Farm, Petcheys Bay  Photographs by Jonathan Wherrett, words by Jacinta Carmichael-Parissi

On a beautiful sunny Sunday this December, we gathered again at Petcheys Bay to feast on local seasonal produce on the banks of the Huon River. The music was made by Tilley, her lovely voice accompanied by guitar and ukulele which added a sweetness to the day that turned out so well. Our guests enjoyed wandering around the farm and a tour given by Kris, Jilly and young Georgia - visiting the miking goats and learning about the mixed farm’s organic methods of production.

We ate a light summery banquet with Dover Bay Mussels, local pink eyes, foraged samphire and a dish of quinoa, braised goat & black garlic along with grilled whole broadbeans, artichokes & Tongola Capris goat’s cheese. Asher has been making some amazing sourdough using seawater, potato & Tasmanian rye flour to eat with our handmade cultured butter. Dessert was a delicious grilled peach, berry, rosehip blossom creme & rye brioche with the very first of the season’s fresh fruits!

Our next event will be another Summer day, late February, held aboard the Yukon sailing ship. We had the pleasure of having our launch party on this stunning wooden boat, and are very excited to be able to share the experience with you this time. Details to come soon.

Happy Summer Time to you all, wishing you a wonderful and delicious year ahead!

The Rivers Table

The Rivers Table - presented by PanTree Produce and  Michelle Crawford with photography by Jonathan Wherrett

In an excited moment of dreamy ideas being made into reality we set sail aboard the Yukon, a beautiful 1930’s Danish wooden boat, with the Huon Valley’s finest food, cider & wine producers.

We popped open some sparkling wine by Wombat Springs Vineyard just as we passed the hill in Franklin where they grow their grapes. We were having a party with our friends to launch our up coming series of events based around producers along the Huon River - the series is called ‘The Rivers Table’.

Hans & Esther, award winning producers of Tongola Goat Products in Wattle Grove, shared some beautiful hand made ‘winter’ goats curd made by the only three goats that they milk out of season.

Paulette and Matt of Provenance Growers together grew, picked and made a stunning salad of edible flowers, herbs, weeds and unusual but very tasty salad leaves. Paulette’s baby winter radishes, with their bright colours and sweet peppery flavour were eaten with our homemade cultured butter and organic sourdough baguettes.

We made a lovely picnic style ‘food to share’ spread, full menu will be up on our events page soon. We made river inspired dishes such as smoked duck and poached pear, potato and rosemary smoked salmon with picked samphire, and a duck egg pasta with duck ragù.

For sweets Matthew Evans of Fat Pig Farm brought along some bay leaf custard made from his house cow’s fresh milk to go with Michelle’s ginger cake and home grown stewed rhubarb. They also collaborated to make a lovely polpette (little Italian meatball) using Matthew’s beef and Michelle’s tasty recipe.

Willie Smiths Organic Cider provided a beautiful addition to the table with their Huon Valley apple cider and along with up and coming wine makers from Sailor Seeks Horse with their delicious Pinot Noir we were well on our merry way!

Jilly and Kris from Twelve Trees Farm provided the finishing touch to an amazing evening adventure, with a beautiful 15 year old organic blueberry port to warm us just as the sun started to disappear and the wind turned icy. We arrived in Cygnet and bid farewell to Captain David and sailor Ewan and wish them well as they continued on to a three-month journey up the East Coast of Australia on the East Coast Odyssey.

We will be holding a Sunday lunch this Spring, the first of our 'The Rivers Table’ series on Twelve Trees Farm amongst the blueberry blossoms, details will be up on our events page soon. To get on the mailing list for early bird tickets email jacinta@pantreeproduce.com
