Twining Bag Weaving Workshop

WHAT TO EXPECT:

Learn how to weave a small twined basket or bag from natural fibres. This one day workshop will introduce you to ancient art of twining, used all over the world to create woven baskets. We will learn how to do the two basic ‘stitches’ (the S and Z twist) and how varying these stitches can create amazing patterns in your woven piece. The workshop will also include information on harvesting and preparing natural materials.

INCLUDES:

The materials and tuition for you to complete a small woven twined basket or bag and hand made string to take home.

ABOUT YOUR TEACHER:

Jillian Culey’s connection with weaving began nearly 20 years ago when she lived and worked on a remote island in the Pacific. After a long hiatus Jillian reconnected with weaving 8 years ago. Now working with a wide variety of natural materials, she enjoys experimenting with various techniques including, twining, ribbed construction, random weave and string making. Jillian has had the opportunity to learn from a range of master weavers both in Australia and overseas. She has exhibited her work in galleries nationally and is experienced in teaching people of all ages.
