This workshop is suitable for beginners through to advanced embroiderers. We will be stitching on soft denims from pre-washed second hand jeans. Each participant will work on a pair of jeans, which is included in the workshop costing, or you can bring your own. In this group session, we will share sewing skills and stories of clothing and sustainable living, allowing for communal calmness, fun and supported learning.

About Your Tutor:

Fiona Howle, the guest artist and presenter of the workshop, is a mother of triplets and a trained Group Facilitator. Her career before children covered 10 years as a full-time practising fibre artist in Bathurst and Sydney. She now runs art and craft workshops at schools, libraries and art galleries, and creative retreats for women. She is the creator of “The Traveling Pants” upcycled denim.

What to Expect:

This workshop lifts classic embroidery stitches and techniques towards graphic and textural works of art. Upcycled clothing is on trend as a way for us to rescue garments from landfill and enjoy personalising them whilst building our crafting skill levels. Participants can expect to leave this workshop with knowledge of various stitching styles, as they explore creative repair and decorative embroidery.

What´s Included:

Included in the workshop is a pair of second hand good quality jeans. There will be a large selection to choose from however if you don’t find your perfect fit, you can alter them, give them to a friend or relative, or bring your own. Also included is “The Stitchers Kit” put together by Fiona, which contains needles and embroidery threads, pins, patches and braids and a denim pocket. The only tool not included in the kit is a pair of scissors which Fiona will bring along for all participants to use.
