Frame Loom Weaving - Weave a Textured Artwork

140.00

Sunday, 8th March, 10am - 3pm

Book online, by phone - (02) 4759 3478 - or in store today!

In this 5 hour workshop you will create your own textured woven artwork using ethically and locally sourced natural materials such as linen, organic cotton and Merino wool. With the global push towards sustainability and slow fashion, there is a growing desire to create our own homewares and accessories using time honoured skills passed on by our ancestors. The ancient art of weaving is the foundation of making all fabric/cloth. The slow repetitive motions of weaving create a relaxed mediative state of mind whilst the hands are kept busy and the cloth grows in length, texture and beauty.

What to expect:

To create your individual piece you will learn to weave on a frame loom, a simple but versatile weaving tool. Techniques such as tabby, soumak, rya and creating loop pile will be covered. We will learn the warping process and finishing techniques also. You will leave the workshop with your own original completed work of art!

What’s included:

All materials and equipment required to complete your own unique hanging artwork are included; Merino wool yarn & roving. organic cotton yarn & thread, and the use of weaving looms & tools. A beautiful Australian made FSC bamboo weaving kit will be available for purchase from your tutor on the day ($55) if you wish to purchase a take home loom so you can continue to practice your new skills at home. Tea, coffee and treats will be provided, and a delicious lunch will be available for purchase in store, so bring a picnic blanket if you’d like to enjoy lunch in Lyttleton’s garden during the lunch break.

About your tutor:

Rebecca Muscat is a Blue Mountains Fibre Artist working primarily in loom weaving and Macrame, crochet and embroidery. Using the natural environment as a source of eternal inspiration, Rebecca favours a sparse, neutral palette to highlight the texture and form of her two & three dimensional works. With a particular interest in slow fashion and the maker movement, Rebecca’s aim is to promote each person’s creative process as a form of mindfulness & self care. With a Bachelor degree in Fine arts, she finds such joy in sharing these skills to creatively energise others.
