Book Launch 14 July 2019 from 3 – 4.30pm at Lyttleton Stores

Join us to celebrate the recent publication of a wonderful book about combatting the big issues of climate change, international education and the sharing of successful knowledge traditions and practices for sustainable living among cultures of the world. The book is titled: “Education for Sustainability through Internationalisation” by Dr. Neera Handa.

Meet the author, who links the serious environmental and social problems of today to innovative and ethical ideas for global solutions. Neera includes aspects of her Indian culture for a non-western perspective on ways forward, introducing the reader to ideas that could change stagnant current attitudes and result in a more positive education of “global citizens”, while healing environmental damage. She uses a personal story, as well as Ghandi’s teachings, including truth, non-violence, self-determination and equality, to introduce Indian philosophical approaches to living sustainably on the earth.

She has also been to Butan where the measure of progress is GNH (Gross National Happiness), not GDP or GNP, and has studied on Vandana Shiva’s educational project farm in India. Vandana Shiva has been revolutionizing approaches to organic food security and battling corporations such as Monsanto for many years.Neera argues that it is time to start thinking and behaving differently, and that this can be achieved through knowledge sharing between East and West and among all cultures, with the aim of reaching for the good of all creatures and survival of the planet.

Refreshments, including some delicious Indian food, will be available.
